The Community Translational Research Institute team recently visited Karma TMS / Karma Doctors & Associates Brain Wellness Center in Palm Springs, California, for an engaging and insightful meeting focused on innovative approaches to behavioral health care.

On behalf of CTRI CEO Professor Andy Johnson and the entire CTRI team, we extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Sunder, Keerthy, and the Karma TMS team for warmly hosting us, introducing us to their excellent clinical team, and sharing the outstanding services and resources available through Karma TMS.

The visit provided CTRI with a valuable opportunity to tour the facility, learn more about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy, and better understand Karma’s thoughtful, patient-centered approach to supporting individuals experiencing depression and related psychosocial challenges. The care, compassion, and clinical attention devoted to patients was both inspiring and deeply impressive.

Karma’s focus is clear, well reasoned, and grounded in experience. We were especially impressed by the team’s spirit of innovation and their commitment to assessing and demonstrating the effectiveness of their programs. Under Dr. Sunder’s superb leadership, Karma TMS continues to model how evidence-based behavioral health services can be delivered with excellence, compassion, and purpose.

This visit was especially timely as CTRI is now recruiting for its Community Mental Health Worker workforce training program, beginning in August. The program is designed to prepare and strengthen a community-based behavioral health workforce that can provide education, guidance, care navigation, and support to individuals and families beyond the clinical setting.

A key point that emerged from the visit was the potential role of CTRI Community Mental Health Workers in strengthening the therapeutic effectiveness of Karma’s TMS program. Through complementary patient education, guidance, care navigation, and home- and community-level support, CTRI’s workforce may help extend the reach and impact of Karma’s clinical services.

The conversations around workforce development, training, research opportunities, apprenticeship development, and collaborative care models were particularly meaningful. CTRI is excited about the possibility of continued partnership with Karma TMS to advance our shared mission of improving behavioral health outcomes and expanding access to high-quality, community-centered mental health care.

We thank Dr. Sunder, Keerthy, and the entire Karma TMS team for their hospitality, generosity, expertise, and vision. CTRI looks forward to continued discussions and future opportunities for collaboration.
